The baby bjorn design came from Sweden and was started 1961.  The ergonomics of the design have been fully researched.  Where in the past parents have relied considerably on the baby carrier to assist with transport of babies, I would say the majority of parents today would be lost without their baby bjorn.  The bonding of the parent and baby comes quite naturally through the closeness of the child to the parent in the baby bjorn.

I cannot help but compare the baby bjorn that is used so much today to the time I spent in Africa where a woman would carry her baby on her back with a long piece of cloth wrapped around mother and child.  That practice seemed quite comfortable for both of them.

The Baby Bjorn has provided parents a great way to be active and have the use of hands and arms while providing baby with a higher view of the world and a way to be included in activities.  The use of this carrier has provided a greater bonding of mother and baby and allows them to spend more time together while mother is able to perform other duties.  Instead of laying the baby in the conventional carrier, she is able to take baby with her while she performs these tasks.

No more carrying the baby on your hip with one arm around him while you attempt to learn to do things one-handed, constantly readjusting position.  The baby bjorn keeps baby safely strapped in and comfortable.  Babies will also be more rested in their comfortable steady position than they were before the baby bjorn.  It is a wonderful addition to baby’s world and yours.
