While the baby is in his/her crib, you want him be comfortable and safe.  Here are several baby home safety thoughts for the crib:

1.  Comforter’s and pillows should not be placed in the crib, as well as bumper pads.  If you must use bumper pads, use thin “breathable” pads.

2.  When your baby develops new skills, the crib safety should be reevaluated.  It is best to take the bumper pads out of the crib so baby doesn’t use them to crawl out.  Also, when the baby begins standing and bracing himself/herself hanging on to the rungs of the crib, it is prudent to lower the mattress to the bottom setting.

Baby-bathing-time has been one of the most, or maybe the most, fun that babies have and it seems that the little ones can stay in the water forever.  Control is a necessary and vital ingredient of that fun.  The tub is so slippery and the baby is so slippery.

Baby safety designers have come up with devices to keep track of the baby while he is in the tub.  They can stay connected to mommy, still have fun, and be safe.  There are many designs and types of restraints available.

Trying to be watchful of the baby and the puppy can be a real job.  Especially if you are cooking dinner, taking out the trash, folding clothes or any one of the  multiple tasks you have.  The baby play yard (playpen) provides a safe and secure space whether you wish to put the puppy in the yard, or the baby and puppy in the yard, it is secure.

Keeping the child away from the fireplace, stairs, and multiple other hazards is a touchy business.  The baby yard (playpen) will provide the safe space.

Should I start my Christmas shopping in October.

Here in Alaska we are still enjoying the Autumn leaves.  There is snow on the mountaintop I am looking at out of my window, but I am not ready to think about Christmas, snow, freezing temperatures.  The snow will gradually come down the mountain and the days will get shorter and shorter.  Then is time to think about Christmas.

Some people I know do their shopping all through the year, but I find if I purchase a present for somebody, I give it to them because I can’t wait until Christmas.  I believe it is better though to have a plan for each of my children and really think about what they would like.  Toys, Books, Clothing, Bedding it is hard to decide.  They like them all.

Especially if we are planning to shop online, it may be better to start soon.

What do you think?

A news article from the November Issue of “Pediatrics” contains information on a study of injuries caused when babies were taken out of the carseat and the carrier was placed on elevated surfaces, such as the table or kitchen counter.  The child can wiggle in the seat and in some cases it has overturned.  When a carseat does overturn, there are reports of mostly head injuries, but also broken limbs.  If it were to overturn on a soft surface, there is the danger of suffocation.

Baby safety in these situations can be ensured by taking a moment to think about where the baby is placed in the busy time of unloading the car after car travel.

As a new father, I thought I was prepared for the trials and tribulations associated with raising a child. For whatever reason, I had always suspected my friends were embellishing their stories about sleepless nights sitting up with the baby. Maybe my kid would be better behaved, I thought, but it was all to no avail. The first few months varied wildly from moments of wonder and bliss to pure torture.

My wife and I coped with the challenges together, and in time I even got used to changing diapers. We set up a baby changing table in the nursery, and it got to the point that no mess could surprise me – either in terms of size or aromatic potency. After those first few months, we had really found our stride as parents. I’m looking forward to the next few years with gusto. The kid is already growing up so fast that I’m trying to capture as many memories as possible.

I remember the puzzle showing the states from my childhood.  I loved it.  I felt like I was really learning something important and something I wanted to know.  This is for older children (5 plus years), but it is easily passed on from one child to another.  I think I would still like it to this day.

A child’s puzzle that will teach the child map and memory skills and in this case geography.  The jigsaw puzzle came into its golden age during the depression.  They are still a lot of entertainment for a very small price.

The imagination is so wonderful and with a beautiful  house and the furnishings, your daughter will be wonderously satisfied for many hours.  Some of the most satisfying memories of my childhood were spent when my imagination was fully engrossed on where to place the furniture in my house and what mama and daddy and all of the children were doing. The nursury and the baby were very important to me.  This is a great educational toy.

Today, putting myself back into my childhood and remembering how I could imagine to that extent is difficult.  We lose the ability to imagine things like that when we are older.  When a child is using his or her imagination, they are expressing themselves in a very true manner and are free to be an individual with out control.

We have added a bunch of children’s books to our store inventory.  This will give a lot more choices.  Do you read to your children?  One suggestion is 20 minutes per day should be spent reading to your child.  It is also suggested that you read to your child from birth and continue to read to them.  It is important to discuss the story with the child and get his opinions.

This is an inexpensive form of entertainment for the child and the parents.  It is time spent together and getting to know each other a little better.

When choosing a car seat for your newborn child, it is important to choose one with a simple, five-point harness system.  This system can be adjusted for use with newborn infants or for children of up to 40 pounds.

The five points of the harness system are two shoulder straps, two upper hip straps and a crotch strap.  When purchasing a convertible car seat, its five-point harnass system will adjust to fit children of all sizes.  You will notice that the points that are strapped in are the strongest areas of the body.
